About the project

A cohousing project designed with and for women over the age of 50 who previously lived alone. With a combination of individual flats and shared facilities ,they are demonstrating that cohabitation improves lives, provides mutual support and reduce pressure on healthcare services.

Local capacity created

  • Active local community-led development: CLTs, CDTs, cohousing partners

  • Active and responsive mutual support

  • Community-led ways of tackling the social determinants of poor health

Impact achieved

  • Well-accepted and funded alternative models for housing, in response to demand

  • Greater awareness and self-sufficiency; can align with local health prevention and services

  • Taking pressure off acute services and over-stretched GPs
